Rockley Helps the Trust
Rockley Golf Club captains Clarence and Pamela Hiles hosted their Annual Captains' Day last Saturday in aid of The Because of Jenna Trust. The members and friends had a full day of golf and entertainment culminating in the presentation of a cheque for $14,000 to one of the Trustees Nigel Worme.
Captains' Day at Rockley is the club's main charity tournament and a good entry produced some fine golf. Barbados National golfer Judd Cozier emerged the winner of the Stableford format with 40 points and three players tied just two points behind. Count-back separated them and Club Captain Clarence Hiles was declared 2nd with Lennox Mirjah 3rd and Ricardo Jarvis 4th. The other placings were Anthony Kirton 5th (after a whopping 23 points on the back nine), Ollie Newman 6th-both on 37 points, Mark Hasler 7th and Sue Wilkinson 8th-both on 36 points. Four players finished on 36 points and Mr. Count-back had to separate them with Ian Dowding and Pamela Hiles narrowly missing out.
Lennox Mirjah and Paul Wharram won the two Nearest-the-Pin prizes.
The golf was followed by a buffet dinner at Birdies on the Green, a fund-raising auction and raffle, presentation of prizes, and music from Aubrey Choy and big Andy.
Speaking on behalf of the Because of Jenna Trust, Nigel Worme thanked the Rockley members for their support and outlined some of the work done by the Trust for brain-damaged children in Barbados. In response, Club Captain Clarence Hiles complimented the Trust for their sterling work in difficult times and appealed to everyone to support worthy causes, especially at this time of the year. Mr. Hiles also thanked the Rockley members for supporting the day and the many sponsors, donors and patrons who combined to make this very worthwhile donation to the Trust.
Rockley is bubbling at present with many of the overseas Snow Bird members back on island. The club has a packed tournament schedule over the next few months and Pots on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.
The Ladies play on Wednesdays.
Rockley is a unique parkland course and a very friendly club. Visitors are welcome to play in all competitions.
